Just ran across Gary's obituary so I thought I would drop a note. I worked with Gary at Fort Douglas during the 80s. Then he took an assignment in Germany and once he got there, he contacted me and asked if I would like to come and work for him there. It only took me a few minutes to decided that it would be an honor to once again work with my friend. That was one of the best decisions of my career. In fact, I attribute my success to that phone call from Europe and to the mentoring I got from Gary so many years ago. Rest well my friend.

My husband and I had the privilege of living near Gary for 24 years. Gary was a truly engaging person. He cared about our family and regularly asked about our kids. He always had a story and was quick to welcome us into his home and/or share his amazing gardening skills. He loved his family well and treasured the relationships he built in the neighborhood. He had a heart for voluntarism and taught many kids and adults to fly fish over the years. He will be dearly missed by all in his sweet neighborhood.

We have known Gary for over 35 years! He and I went through our Master's degree program together in Utah. When we connected again in Colorado he taught me to fly fish and we had many wonderful times together. He was always so kind, caring and trustworthy! He is a true gentleman and I'm sure he is happy with Sandy in heaven! It is a true blessing to know him. Love, Bill and Mary Bartels

My first fly fishing lesson was given by Mr. Spuhler. Had me in the backyard whipping that line. Smiles. And then the true adventure, we went up seven mile river. Gary went up and I hung around fishing. Fly fishing. Had a great time. No fish stories for me. Gary landed several, the Master fly fisherman. RIP Gary Spuhler.
