John befriended me immediately when I came to church at the Murray Building. He always had stories for me about his life in the service and in Hawaii. He came to help me whenever I needed him in the true way of service. His wife dances like a beautiful Hawaiian fairy, his daughter became one of my best friends and plays piano beautifully with dedication. His grand daughter is a beautiful girl. He truly blessed his family, our ward, community, and the world. I am lucky to have known him!

I have few memories of Uncle John except for stories told to me by Grandfather Parr, Grandmother Parr, and my father Neil (Tom) Parr. My favorite story was when they were living in Italy during the war, where Uncle John and my Dad would go swimming/diving in the sea. Apparently they acquired an octopus and decided to put it into the freezer at home unbeknownst to Grandmother Parr. Needless to say she was quite surprised upon opening the freezer to discover the catch. I could only imagine her reaction.
