Obituary of Oris George Reed

Oris George Reed, 89, of Lamar, Colorado, passed away on October 16, 2022. He was surrounded by family and had been visited by many beloved family members and friends before his death. Oris requested that his obituary be brief, and his family is honoring that request. He was born in Ca�on City, Colorado on October 4, 1933, to his parents, Asa Ankrum and Zilpha Maude (Hershner Ankrum Reed) Hutchens. Oris lived a life of service to his fellow man. Having endured the Great Depression as a child, he served valiantly in the United States Army during the Korean conflict, and married his childhood sweetheart, Patsy Christine States on July 9, 1955. Together they had two daughters, lived a life of hardship and adventure, including but not limited to dairy farming, cattle breeding, city living, and in their golden years, even mule training. Oris was a devout member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He believed in God, country, and serving anyone and everyone who needed help, love, or simply to know they were of worth. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Patsy C. Reed; his birth father, Asa Ankrum; his adoptive father, William McKinley Reed; his mother, Zilpha Maude Hershner Ankrum Reed Hutchens; and his younger brother, Paul Reed. Oris is survived by his youngest brother, Dean (Ruth) Reed; his eldest daughter, Marcia Lynn (Kevin) Reed Meyers; his younger daughter, Luanna Lynn (Steven) Reed Rodham; six grandchildren, Sandy, Mitchel, Trent, Jonathan, Brandon, and Sara, and nine great grandchildren, Lincoln, Lancelot, Grace, Hudson, Phoebe, Fox, Rhett, Gunner and Colbie.
