Michael Dees

Obituary of Michael Allen Dees

Michael Allen Dees, 33, of Colorado Springs, passed away on December 22nd, 2023.

Mikey was born on August 4th, 1990 and welcomed with open arms into the Dees family by parents Terry and Cornelia Dees, older siblings Christopher Dees and Jessica [Moberly] in February of 1992 in Falcon, Colorado.

As a kid Mikey thrived; you could find him dancing, loving music, baking, playing with Lego and helping with all the family farm animals. He could often be found as his sister’s shadow playing whatever pretend game of the day was or running through the house with a towel cape shouting “Mighty Mike!”

Mikey excelled at sports. He was a natural born athlete, enjoying both the physical and mental challenges of all sports. Throughout middle and high school, Mikey's prowess in both wrestling and football was remarkable, consistently bringing home victories. He was also a very active member of the Plainsman 4H club starting as a Clover Bud through his senior year of high school. He participated in many projects including hogs, steers, poultry-winning Grand Champion Turkey, pocket pets, and other tabletop projects.

After high school, addiction began eroding away at his youthful and free spirit. Addiction is complex and immensely challenging and leaves no-one unaffected. Mikey’s battle with addiction was scary and heartbreaking. His addiction was unrelenting, eroding many of his relationships with family and friends. At times, glimpses of Mighty Mike's compassion and zest for life would shine through, revealing the true essence of who he was beyond the struggles of addiction. Though Mikey may have lost the battle with addiction he will always be that youthful, free spirited, and compassionate Mighty Mike we all knew and loved.

Mikey was preceded in death by his father, Terry.

His memory will be greatly missed by his mother, Cornelia Dees; sister, Jessica Moberly; brother, Christopher Dees; nephew, Lane Dees; niece, Zanna Dees, as well as his many cousins, family, and friends.
