Obituary of Julaine Berniel Swithers
Julaine Berniel Swithers, 60, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away on November 23, 2023 after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born on August 22, 1963, in Dearborn, Michigan. Julaine was a loving, selfless, and godly woman who blessed the lives of many through her compassion, intelligence, thoughtfulness, and humor. Above all, she had a deep and unwavering faith in Jesus, which she shared with others through her hospitality and neighborhood Bible studies.
Julaine is survived by her beloved husband, Steve Swithers; cherished children, Sam (Caitlyn) Swithers, Becca Swithers, Jake Swithers, Isaac Swithers, and Josiah (Ashley) Swithers; and precious granddaughter, Ophelia Swithers. She was the adored daughter of Jim and Betty Buick and dearly loved by two brothers, Greg (Val) Buick and Bob (Becky) Buick. She was the treasured aunt of many nieces and nephews.
Julaine excelled academically, graduating from New Trier High School in Winnetka, Illinois and earning a Bachelor's degree from Houghton College, Houghton, New York. She furthered her education by obtaining a Master's degree from Northwestern University Medill School of Journalism, Evanston, Illinois. Julaine's passion for education led her to become a certified Wilson Reading System practitioner and dyslexia specialist with Peak Reading Solutions. She made a significant difference in the lives of many students, helping them build confidence and independence in learning.
In her free time, Julaine found joy in cooking, baking, hiking, and hosting women's Bible studies. Throughout her high school and college years she was an accomplished musician and enjoyed playing the flute and piccolo. Above all, spending time with her children and granddaughter brought her immense happiness.

Julaine's legacy of faith, love, and kindness will forever be cherished by her family, friends, and all those fortunate enough to have known her. May she rest in her heavenly father’s arms.
