Obituary of James Carter

Jim passed away in the comfort of his home in the early morning of October 7.

Jim grew up in Bethel, Kansas, and graduated from Randolph High School in Randolph, Kansas. 

He went on to earn an Associate degree in Automotive Mechanics in Manhattan, Kansas, where he later purchased and operated a Standard Oil Station.

In 1985, Jim relocated to Monument, Colorado, and found employment with Lewis Palmer School District 38's transportation department, then transferred to the district's maintenance department. He received recognition for his improvements to both his department and the facilities and retired as head of the department in 2009.

In 1987, he met his second wife, Vicki Gray, and her four children. They united in holy matrimony in June,1989, at the Monument Community Presbyterian Church.

Jim's hobbies included working on home improvement projects, growing pepper plants, crafting home brewed beer and wine, and reading books. He and Vicki enjoyed road trips to see natural landmarks and prehistoric ruins. They also loved to feed and watch birds together.

He was preceded in death by his parents Mark Eugene Carter and AvaNell Lucile Carter; brother, Richard Edward Carter; and wife, Vicki Lou Gray. 

He is survived by his brothers, Jon Robert Carter (Kristin Dearborn) and Gordan Wilbur Carter (Sandee); children, Jon Michial Carter (Catherine) and James Patrick Carter (Jennifer); step-children, Erica Olivier, Chris Olivier, Noelle Bumgarner and Alex Olivier; plus six grandchildren.

Jim generously donated his body and will be reunited with Vicki's skeleton at the Forensic Investigation Research Station at Colorado Mesa University.

Per Jim's request, there will be no memorial service.
