Obituary of Thomas Maurice Harrison

On October 12, 2023, we unexpectedly lost an amazing husband, father, son, brother, cousin, uncle, papa, and friend.  

Thomas Maurice Harrison, or "Punkin" as he was affectionately referred to by his family, was born on February 15, 1950, the third of six boys and an older half sister. 

Thomas' early education was in the public schools of Waco, Texas until the desegregation of public schools in which he moved with his mother and brothers to Compton, CA. He spent a few years in Compton before moving back to Waco, Texas where he gratuated from Carver High. Upon graduating in 1968, he enlisted in the United States Army.

Through his service in the military, he traveled to Korea and Germany, spending a total of 17 years overseas. While stationed in Germany, he met and married the love of his life, Sigrid, with whom he shared 45 loving years of marriage. In 1978 they had their daughter, Lisa, who he loved without measure and unconditionally.  In 1991, he tragically lost his brother and took his niece and nephew, Opal and Isaac Harrison in as his own and as such, loved them as his own. 

Throughout his time spent in Germany, he became so close with his in-laws that he was conflicted on retiring there or in the US. His wife highly influenced his final decision for practical reasons.  

When he retired from the military in Colorado Springs in 1989, he began working full time for UHaul and through his work and dedication, became a General Manager with UHaul. He retired from UHaul in 2012. 

Thomas had a heart of gold and never met a stranger. He loved his family deeply. His wife was the love of his life and he adored his grandchildren, Jasmine, Benjamin, and Tyriq, whom he loved as his own. 

Through life experiences, he gained friends that soon became family whom he loved dearly. 

He was a hard worker and a jack of all trades. He loved people, cooking, fishing, and working in his garage. He was always willing to lend a helping hand to any and everyone. 

He is preceded in death by his father, Booker T. Harrison; brothers, Booker T., Robert James, and Lewis; half sister, Celestine Harrison; his grandson, DaShawn; father and mother in law, Helmut and Annelise Lochschmidt; and brother-in-law, Günter Lochschmidt.

He is survived by his wife, Sigrid Harrison; Daughter, Lisa Harrison; grandchildren, Jasmine and Benjamin, all of Colorado Springs; his niece, Opal Harrison of Phoenix, Arizona; nephew, Isaac Harrison of Ft. Worth Texas; his mother, Bessie Harrison of San Antonio, TX; brothers, Samuel (Karen) Harrison also of San Antonio and John (Tracey) Harrison of Waco Texas, Marita (Fred) Tetter; his in-laws, Karin (William) Surber of Williamsburg, Virginia; Gerlinde Fritzges and Gerold (Irma) Lochschmidt, all of Germany; as well as a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews and many dear friends and acquaintances.
