Obituary of Phyllis Josephine Witzig
Phyllis Witzig was born in Gainesville, Texas in 1938 to Clarence and Phyllis Wood.
She died at the age of 84 after a long battle with renal cell cancer.
Phyllis graduated from Gainesville High School and then went on to get Bachelors and Masters of Education degrees from North Texas State University. She taught second grade in several different places but the most exciting experience was teaching for the Department of Defense for two years in Japan and one year in Germany.
One marriage ended in divorce but produced her son, Dr. John Siegenthaler.
Phyllis married Dr. Kay H. Petersen who preceded her in Death after 20 years of marriage. They enjoyed out door activities and traveling.
Upon moving to Liberty Heights Retirment Community, Phyllis reconnected with a long-time social acquaintance Col. Dick Witzig and they were married in 2015. She and Dick enjoyed the many activities of their retirement community and both served on the Resident Council.
Phyllis loved hiking, skiing, ice skating, and golf. She was a talented seamstress and amateur artist. She enjoyed doing pencil sketches of friends and relatives which she entered in the Liberty Heights art exhibits.
Phyllis is succeeded by her son, John Siegenthaler; husband, Dick Witzig; brother, David Wood; and her step-daughters, Julie Cozad, Chris McCloud, and Amy Spradlin. Phyllis considered her step-daughters a blessing in her life.
Phyllis was active in the First Lutheran Church and for 15 years was chairman on one of the Women's circles.
