Obituary of Laura Dawn Hetfield

Laura Dawn Hetfield, 53, of Reno, Nevada, passed away on September 20, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

She was born on February 4, 1970 to Shelley Shellfo and John McDonald in Des Moines, Iowa. Laura graduated from Reno High School in 1988. She served as an Aerospace Ground Equipment technician in the United States Air Force from 1993 to 1997. She met her husband Rich in 1995 while serving at Luke Air Force Base, Arizona. At the time of her passing, Laura worked as a Study Hall Supervisor at Doherty High School. She worked in Colorado Springs School District 11 for over 11 years as an employee and volunteer. 

Laura was a hippy spirit who loved classic rock music, the Colorado Renaissance Festival, and hitting the dance floor. Most of all, she loved being a mother to her 2 beautiful daughters. She will be remembered for being a fighter as she beat cancer twice, her caring and positive attitude displayed towards the lives she touched, and her beautiful smile that could simply make your day. 
 
Laura is survived by her husband Rich; daughters Adelynn and Emma; mother Shelley; and step-parents Ritch and Kellie. 

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to all of Laura’s friends and co-workers for their outpouring of love and support. There will be a Celebration of Life scheduled for Laura on a future date in the coming months.
