Obituary of Victor Joseph Favero
His presence filled our lives with love and laughter; Victor Joseph Favero passed away on Saturday, 9 September 2023. On a Colorado mid-day, heaven gained an angel who was welcomed by his father Gary; his Papa William; father-in-law Raul; and his fur babies Angus, Lola, Belle and Wolfgang.
He was born in Niagara Falls, NY in 1981 to Gary Alan Favero, Sr. and Mary Favero, who at a young age developed a food aficionado. There have been stories about Raisinets, a fish, and even knocking on a neighbor’s door for cookies in the early am. Victor’s charisma shined from the start.
After high school and college, he enlisted into the United States Army where he served 11 years before receiving a medical retirement. As a soldier and retired Army Veteran, Victor always displayed his unwavering courage and commitment to his country, and his legacy of service will always be honored. He touched the lives of many with his kindness, humor and selflessness.
A gentle giant with a heart of gold. He had many loves in his life from bingo to comic books to tattoos. But all who knew him, knew his most important love was his wife, Melissa. While stationed at Fort Lewis, a chance meeting at the gym led to a love story like no other with a short courtship of four months, leading to a 17 1/2 year marriage. Even through deployments, there wasn’t a day that went by that Victor didn’t manage to make Melissa smile.
Victor was a big brother to his siblings, Gary and Alissa. His presence was a source of comfort to them. He shared countless moments of joy, laughter, and wisdom with his siblings, creating a bond that will endure for ages. It wasn’t until later in his life, that a chance encounter between extended family led to Victor meeting their older half-sister, Jaime, who he had always wondered about throughout his entire life. In meeting her, he felt complete, finally filled to have his entire family together. The void which was there was filled with joy, he couldn’t have been happier to meet her, her family, hear about her life, and find out all the ways they were alike.
Victor was a loving husband, brother, family man, and uncle to many nieces and nephews both related and unrelated. Victor had an extraordinary zest for life, a warm smile that could brighten anyone’s day, and a heart overflowing with love. To his nieces and nephews he was not just an uncle, but a confidant, a role model, a hero, and a playmate. He was even an honorary uncle to the children of his dear friends who welcomed them into his heart with open arms. He shared wisdom, told captivating stories, and never missed an opportunity to make them laugh.
At a young age and throughout his life, Victor always had a soft spot for his furry friends, treating each and every one like a valuable family member. Whether spending his own money to feed a neighborhood cat, rescuing a lost dog in the community, or chewing up a treat for his dachshund that just lost all her teeth, he would do anything for them.
Victor and his friends were inseparable throughout their lives. From an early age, Victor forged lifelong friendships, but none were as enduring as those as he built in high school on the football field and during his time in the army. No matter how much distance was between them, they still stayed connected, and when together, started up as if there was no time or space between them. The memories that they shared and continued to create will forever be the way Victor continues to be in our lives.
Victor will be deeply missed and forever remembered for the love, joy and passion he shared with the world. His memory will forever be cherished by those fortunate enough to have known him. Victor was a rare gift to this world who will be celebrated by those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife Melissa; his fur babies Aria, Obi, Taz; his mom Mary Favero (Jeff Ritter); his siblings Gary (Caroline) Favero Jr., Alissa Favero and Jaime (John) Walkowiak-Gavin; his in-laws Jean (Robert) McClintock, and Jennifer (Alex) Matthews; his mother-in-law Andrea Negron-Machado; his nieces/nephews Emma, Annalise, Mila, Elijah, Elise, J.J., Julian, Justin, and Serinity; his grandparents Joseph & Dorothy Farrell and Rita Favero; his cousin Sabrina Poremba who was always like a sibling to him, and a large host of cherished aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. All those he loved and touched deeply.

A Celebration of Life Ceremony will be held in Victor’s hometown of Niagara Falls, New York the following weekend. Flowers, plants or monetary contributions will be accepted, but you can also make a memorial contribution to any animal rescue in Victor’s honor.
