Obituary of Raymond Edward Meyer

Raymond (Ray) Meyer, 93, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away Monday, August 21, 2023, in Colorado Springs.

He was born February 16, 1930, to George E. and Clara Marie Meyer in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ray graduated from Roosevelt High School in December of 1949. He went on to attend the University of Minnesota and graduated in 1953 with a degree in engineering. While attending the university, Ray met his future wife Joan (Joni) Plocher. They celebrated 70 years of marriage on April 26, 2023.

After graduation, Ray worked for Honeywell Corporation. His work took Ray and Joni to Las Cruces, New Mexico, Los Angeles, California, and back to Minneapolis, Minnesota. Ray worked for Honeywell his entire professional career. After retirement, Ray volunteered for several years with Crossways Ministries. He was involved in numerous church ministries at St Michael’s Lutheran Church in Bloomington, Minnesota and most recently at Family of Christ Lutheran in Colorado Springs. Ray also enjoyed traveling with Joni as they traveled to 49 states, Canada, Columbia, Germany, Israel, and Egypt. He often wished they could have made it to Rhode Island.

Ray loved the outdoors. He enjoyed canoe trips, camping, and hiking. Ray spent many winter days on the ski slopes in Minnesota, Wisconsin, Utah, and Colorado. He even skied on his 80th birthday! Ray also loved sports cars and enjoyed watching races. But most of all, Ray loved his family. 

He is preceded in death by his parents, George and Clara Meyer; as well as his wife, Joan Meyer. 

Ray is survived by his son Paul and wife Ewa Ratajczak Meyer; daughter Susan Meyer; and daughter Gail and husband Tim Rohlfing. Ray is also survived by his five granddaughters and their spouses: Holly and Chad Johnson, Lindsay and Scott Peterson, Stephanie and Matt Beebe, Anna and Jesse Tucker, Kelsey and Benjamin Barton; as well as his seven great-grandchildren: Kayla, Davis, Beck, Flora, Rebekah, Hope, and Juliet. Ray is also survived by his loving cousins, nephews, and nieces.

Memorial contributions may be made to Crossways International, at crossways.org. Crossways Series of Bible Studies was a ministry that was very important to Ray as these studies communicate the story of Jesus throughout the world.
