Obituary of Mary Amelia Galvan

Mary (Maria) Amelia Galvan, 83, of Colorado Springs, Colorado passed away Thursday, August 24, 2023 in Colorado Springs. 

She was born July 12, 1940 to Baltazar and Maria Alvarado in Colorado Springs, Colorado. 

Amelia went to Colorado Springs High School (Palmer H.S.) and graduated in 1958. After becoming a wife and mother, Amelia attended the Univesity of Colorado at Colorado Springs and majored in Elementary Education. She worked for District 2 and Colorado Springs School District 11 as a Kindergarten teacher for many years.

Mom's operatic voice and musical talents were discovered at 5 years old; most notably when she would play "Chopstix" over and over on the family piano, to everyone's dismay. By middle school, she would have solos in various holiday and school concerts. At Colorado Springs High School she was a lead and contributor to numerous musicals and productions. She went on to have major parts in Operettas and Operas in Colorado Springs and Denver. Amelia loved being a part of various Catholic Church choirs throughout the diocese. 

With all of her heart, Amelia loved Jesus Christ and the Holy Catholic Church and had an ardent devotion to our Mother Mary. Her strong religious beliefs and prayers carried her through difficult times and made her a positive, loving person to all she encountered. 

Amelia is preceded in death by her parents, Baltazar and Maria Alvarado; four brothers and five sisters.

Amelia is survived by her husband, Jose Lucas Galvan of Colorado Springs; daughter, Angelica (Albert) Valentin of San Diego; daughter, Adriana (Patrick) Jernigan of Colorado Springs; and son, Louie (Thi) Galvan of La Veta. Amelia is also survived by seven beautiful grandchildren who brought her joy, comfort, happiness, and a reason to always stay strong.
