Annie Artis

Obituary of Annie Joyce Artis

Ms. Annie Joyce (Garrett) Artis went home to be with the Lord on August 6th 2023.

She was born in Anniston, Alabama on September 11th, 1944 to the parentage of Earl Garrett and Ailiene Malone.

Ms. Annie Joyce Artis was preceded in death by her sisters, Ruby Lee Mathews, Rosa Mae Mahan, Bessie Caver, and Carolyn Taylor; her brother, Earl Garrett Jr.; and her son, Douglas Garrett.

Ms. Annie Joyce Artis is survived by her husband, George Artis; her son, James Garrett; her daughter, Monique Garrett; her sister, Sarah Young; her grandchildren, Octavius Garret, Breana Morton, Oneisha Hayes, and Jena Martinez; and her great-grandchildren, Xander Teague, Carter Morton, and Torrence Morton.

Ms. Annie Joyce Artis was a faithful servant to the Lord her entire life and let God use her to do good on this earth every chance she had. She was a member of Emmanuel Missionary Baptist Church and attended service faithfully until her health slowly declined. When she was not in the house of the Lord she would split her time between being an excellent cook, supreme gardener, and a doting grandmother.

Ms. Artis worked at Evans Army Community Hospital in outpatient surgery where her natural caring nature was able to help give soldiers and their spouses a sense of peace and reassurance during difficult times. She retired after 20+ years of dedicated service. After retirement, Ms. Artis spent more time traveling the world with her children and grandchildren, traveling and creating new experiences with her family brought her so much joy.

During the spring and summer months, Ms. Artis would tend to her fabulous garden. She would greet her several rose bushes with fresh water and a smile before moving on to her heavenly bells, and marigolds, her favorite flowers. Comparatively to her garden she loved being in her kitchen just as much. Ms. Artis would use any celebration to put her skills to the test. Birthdays, Sunday dinners, holidays and much more. She believed food brought her family together so she would cook any chance she had to celebrate her family.

She would have been married 47 years to her husband George Artis, and they would have celebrated their anniversary on October 1st, 2023. Ms. Annie Joyce Artis was a woman of God who met no stranger, and left you with a smile every time her path would cross with another. She will truly be missed.
