Obituary of Terry L. Reed

Mr. Terry L. Reed passed away on August 14, 2023 in the hospital surrounded by his family and loved ones. 

He was born December 28, 1954 in Zanesville, Ohio as the youngest of five children, to Dorman and Dorothy (Breitkreutz) Reed.  

Terry attended Zanesville city schools and graduated from Zanesville High School in 1973. Upon registering for the draft in December, 1972 he enlisted in the United States Army under the delayed enlistment program (the draft was cancelled in 1973 placing him among as one of the many "last of the draftees" that really didn't have to go if they'd have just waited).

After serving faithfully in the Army (4th Infantry Division, Ft Carson, CO and Wiesbaden, GE) in Armor and Artillery units, Mr. Reed left the Army in April 1980 and enjoyed a short stint as a part time racecar mechanic/driver and part time mechanic for Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Mr. Reed joined the Civil Service roles in June of 1980.

In 1981 he joined the ranks of "permanent" civil service employees and was given his first management responsibility--developing requirements for a "first-ever" commissary shelf-stocking contract that could eventually put him out of a job. In 1982, Mr. Reed was hired into the Contract Requirements Division of SAC (SACLOG/LGRS).  These Divisions would later become part of the newly formed Headquarters Air Force Space Command. Mr. Reed served 37 total combined years of Army (7 years) and Civil Service (Air Force - 30 years) before retiring on December 29, 2009.

Mr. Reed was a dedicated member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He served on many of the boards within the church as well as serving as a volunteer and eventually a staff member responsible for facilities and Information Technology maintenance, support and management.

Terry is survived by his loving wife Barbara (Cordova) Reed (married June 14, 1974); daughter, Dawn (Jeff) Petersma; grandson, Matthew Petersma; and a granddaughter, Marissa Petersma.

He was extremely proud of his little family and loved them with all his heart!
