Obituary of Gale Lynn Benedict

Gale Lynn Benedict, age 71, departed this earth peacefully in his sleep at his home in Fountain on Sunday, August 6, 2023.

Gale was born in Lamar, Colorado on November 29, 1951, and spent his childhood in Lamar, Wiley, Amarillo, and Colorado Springs, when he finally moved to Fountain in 1976. 

Gale graduated from Widefield High School in 1971, then returned to Wiley for several years to cattle and sheep ranch with his grandfather, Art. He returned to Fountain to raise his children and work with his father in their landscaping business, until his father passed in 2011. 

Gale spent his days at his favorite restaurant, formally known as Coke’s Diner in Fountain, when he wasn’t occupying his time with odd jobs or his grandchildren. 

Anyone who knew Gale knew he didn’t know a stranger and would have done anything for anyone. His favorite past times were bad jokes, goofy stories, and sharing lunch with Harley. 

Gale was preceded in death by his parents Fredrick (2011) and Bettie (2016); and his brother, Larry Benedict (1967). 

He leaves behind his children, Rebecca (Jason) Schwartz, and Daniel (Beth) Benedict; his six grandchildren, Casey (Nick) Lang, Brenna Thomas, Tyler Schwartz, Allison (Lucas) Hermes, Kiah Benedict, Jakob Benedict; and most recently, his great-grandson McCrae Hermes. He will be missed dearly by his best pal, his dog Harley. 

Services, 11:00AM, Saturday, August 26, 2023, Fountain Valley Baptist Church, 500 Alabama Avenue, Fountain, Colorado 80817.

Potluck reception to follow in the fellowship hall. Please bring a dish and a memory of Gale to share. 

Interment to be held in Lamar, Colorado, at a later date.
