Obituary of Vernon Herman, U.S. Air Force (Ret.)

Vernon “Sonny" J. Herman, Born July 8, 1957 in Camden, New Jersey, died at his home on June 20, 2023. 

Raised in Deptford, New Jersey, he graduated from Deptford Township High School in 1976. After graduating, he enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving as a Security Forces K-9 handler and later cross-training into the Intelligence Field. He retired from the Air Force as a Technical Sergeant following 20 years of honorable service, including deployments in support of Operation Desert Shield / Storm. His personal decorations include the Joint Service Achievement Medal, Air Force Achievement Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal, Southwest Asia Service Medal, and Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon. He had a passion for music and loved his dog Mysty. 

Preceded in death by daughter, Christine Herman; mother, Virginia Herman Morris; father, Edward A. Morris; and brother, Joseph Morris. 

He is survived by his daughter, Diana Herman Gutierrez and her husband Ruben; his son, Sonny James Herman; and siblings, Linda King, Beth Herman, Debbie Farmer, Roe Marrero, Nichole Ditizio; his eight grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
