Obituary of Gary Douglas Adkison, U.S. Army (Ret.)

Major Gary Douglas Adkison, U.S. Army (Ret.), 82, passed away on June 30, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

He was born on October 28, 1940, in McCall, Idaho.

Gary earned a bachelor’s degree in Bible studies, and a master’s degree in divinity in 1968.

After graduate school, Gary served as a pastor for the Seventh Day Adventist church, then a Bible teacher at Laurelwood Adventist Academy, and then joined the US Army as a Chaplain.  Years later, he transferred to the US Army Medical Service Corps, and then to US Army Civil Service, until retiring after 27 years of military service.

Gary loved motorcycles, firearms, mountaineering, rock climbing, golfing, and tabletop games.

Gary adored his wife, Kyong.  Together they were consummate hosts to family and friends.  Gary and Kyong also traveled the world extensively, sometimes with son, Peter.

Gary will be deeply missed by many friends, family members, and tabletop gaming fans.

He was preceded in his death by his parents, Douglas and Amy; and his brother, Bill Adkison.  

Gary is survived by his wife, Kyong; son, Peter; and daughter, Joyce; and two grandchildren, Courtney and Ryan.
