Obituary of Cherie Sue Miller

Cherie (Cummings) Miller of Libertyville, IL, formerly of Pekin, IL, and Sterling, IL, died April 18, 2023, in Colorado Springs, Co.  
 
She was born in Sterling, IL to Edmund Joy (E.J.) Phillips Cummings and Emily Violet (Sundberg) Cummings on January 20, 1941. She graduated from Sterling Township High School in 1959 and received her B.A. in education from Bradley University in Peoria, IL in 1963. She married Daryl Wayne Steele on June 29, 1963.  
 
She taught first grade at Willow Grade School in Pekin, IL. She loved teaching which came naturally to her. She actually began her long teaching career at age 8 when she tried to teach her preschool sisters everything she was learning in school. She enjoyed tutoring her own children and grandchildren. While teaching and raising her family, she enjoyed tennis, golf, bridge, and socializing with friends. 
 
She married the love of her life, Robert Ray Miller, on January 7, 1984. They moved to Libertyville, IL where Cherie spent retirement by substitute teaching in Vernon Hills, enjoying her children and grandchildren, exercising with her friends, watching ball games with Bob, and traveling with family and friends. 
 
She is survived by her husband, Bob, with whom she spent almost 40 loving years. He took wonderful care of her as long as he could during her four-year illness. She is also survived by her son Jeffrey Steele, her daughter Jennifer (Paul) King, her step-son Phil (Linda) Miller and step-daughter Julie (Jeff) Hines,  her grandchildren Andrew King, Erica King, Bethany Lingenfelter, Brittany Poglioli, Alexis Young, Krista (Craig) Ferraro and Mitch Fantinand, her sisters Lynne Beth Cummings (partner Richard Chenoweth), Patrice Joy (Ed) Heckert, her brother-in-law Tim (Pat) Miller who have been loving and supportive to her and Bob during their past year and a half in Colorado Springs, Co. She is also survived by one aunt, Carmen Cummings, her niece Monica Miller, her nephew Brandon Heckert, her niece Katrina (Craig) Stevens. 
 
She was preceded in death by her parents and Daryl Steele and grandson Tyler Young. 
 
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
