Obituary of Harold Burton Jaeke

Harold "Hal" B. Jaeke Jr. was born April 14, 1936 in Lakewood, Colorado to Harold B. Jaeke Sr. and Dona Miller Jaeke. 

Hal attended all twelve grades at Mountair School in Lakewood. While his parents tended bees, chickens and goats, Hal and his brother Vince "Pete" brought home a variety of dogs, a raccoon, a skunk, an iguana and more. Hal always had a love for cars (both antique and classics). His first car was a Model A. He decided he wanted a convertible, so Hal, along with his friends, cut the top off the old Model A only to later discover it was a premium model. He also built his own kit car. 

Hal joined the Navy August 10, 1955.  He was proud to have been a member of the SeaBees, the Naval Construction Battalion.  After honorable discharge he returned to Denver and worked at various jobs, including owning a Phillips 66 service station. In May 1967, Hal joined the Colorado Highway Patrol and moved his family to Colorado Springs. He served over twenty-five years, retiring in January 1993. After retirement from the State Patrol, Hal did handyman projects and remodeled houses during the times when he and Carol Green, his loving partner of thirty-two years, weren’t traveling in their motorhome. Having earned an Associate Degree in Law Enforcement from Pikes Peak Community College, Hal taught there part time for many years. 

Hal enjoyed all types of dancing, particularly square dancing. He was a member of the Dancin’ Shadows, a square dance demonstration group. Hal also loved to travel in his motorhome and was an active member of the Rocky Roos and Ramblin Roos Chapters of Bounders United.  He and Carol traveled in all fifty states plus many of the Canadian provinces. He was an avid fisherman and held a membership for many years in the Mulligan Fishing and Gun Club near Longmont, Colorado.  Hal also belonged to the Colorado State Patrol Alumni Association. 

Hal is survived by Carol, son Harold A. (JudyLee Patton) Jaeke; daughter, Lynette Morrow; stepdaughter, Marni (Nate) Kisergreen and stepdaughter Julia (Peter Gould) Green; twelve grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. 

He was preceded in death by his parents; baby daughter Heather; and adult daughter Leanne Metzger.
