David Horst

Obituary of David B. Horst

David B. Horst passed away peacefully from natural causes on March 27, 2023 surrounded by his family.

Born August 28, 1940, in Washington, DC, David’s family moved to Southern California where David attended Newport Harbor High School.  Upon graduation, he enlisted in the U.S. Coast Guard and served honorably for several years.  At that time, David married and had four daughters, Carole, Debbie, Donna, and Christine.

David enjoyed taking family vacations across the country; he also purchased a boat, named it “Eaglewake,” and taught his girls to water ski and fish during trips to the Newport Back Bay and Pacific Ocean.

Among David’s family traditions was to wake early on Christmas morning and prepare homemade cinnamon rolls!  In addition, David also enjoyed occasional trips to Las Vegas or Cripple Creek.

David earned his living as an electrical engineer, and worked many years at St. Jude Hospital in Fullerton, California before starting his own business and serving South Coast area hospitals.

Soon David’s love of animals and the country brought him to Colorado, where he owned a ranch in Rush, Colorado.  He enjoyed his horses, cows, and later llamas and miniature horses while working his land.

David also enjoyed fishing with friends, surrounded by the scenic beauty of Colorado.  He always looked forward to the Colorado State Fair, and regularly visited the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo with his family.  After such excursions, David took family or friends out for Mexican food – a favorite of his.

David had a benevolent heart, and always gave generously to anyone in need.

David is preceded in death by his mother, Margaret; his father, Edgar; as well as his sister Joan; and his daughter, Donna.

He is survived by his brother, Bobby; his daughters, Carole, Debbie, and Christine; as well as twelve grandchildren and sixteen great-grandchildren.

We love you, Dad.
