Obituary of James Clarence Illian
James Clarence Illian, 90, passed away on March 16, 2023 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
He was born on December 24, 1932 in Pierre, South Dakota to Charles Clarence and Marie Kathryn (Getz) Illian.
James was in the United States Army from April 1953 to April of 1955.
James worked with Mountain Bell Communications for 32 years. At retirement, he was a Key Installer. After retirement, he worked at Agri Feed and the Boy Scouts Store.
He enjoyed many activities such as, Boy Scouts of America for 50 years; Scoutmaster of Troop 58; he was involved in the district, Council, Order of Arrow, and received the Wood badge. He attended two national scout Jamborees, one as an assistant Scoutmaster and the other as a Scoutmaster.
James was awarded the Council Silver Beaver and the Lutheran Lamb award.
James was a faithful servant of the church body, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and served on many boards. He loved gospel music.
He was a lover of old cowboy music and poetry. Some of his favorites were, Sons of the Pioneers, and Sons of San Joaquin. He also loved the works of Louis Lamour and Zane Gray, as well as John Wayne movies.
James is survived by his wife of 66 years, Helen M. (Turnpin) Illian; his children, Timothy Illian, Cheryl (Kris) Ceresoli, and Mark (Debby) Illian; five granddaughters; nine great-grandchildren; four nephews; one niece; and several godchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Marie Illian; sister, Anita McLeer; and brother, Reverend Donald Illian.
