Obituary of Russell Lee Stanke

Russell Lee Stanke, 63, passed away February 13, 2023, at Sundance nursing home where he resided the last two and a half years in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

Russell was born on January 14, 1960, in Stanton, California to Leo and Katharyn Stanke.

Russell had one daughter, Brittney who resides in Omaha, Nebraska. 

Russell worked in multiple management positions over the years with his last position working for a friend at Cleat’s Bar and Grill before sustaining a life changing brain injury fifteen years ago. Russell almost lost his life after a slip and fall hitting his head against a concrete sidewalk which left him permanently disabled with a TBI and aphasia. This did not prevent him from enjoying life as he continued to play in pool leagues with his late friend Dick. 

Russell enjoyed simple pleasures in life like good food, playing pool and golf, being around dogs, and his love of Pepsi. 

Russell called himself grandpapa to his two grand-daughters, Rilee and Teegan. He enjoyed their regular visits to Colorado to see him, bringing him great joy and pride.

Russell is survived by his great aunt, Mary Sellers; daughter, Brittney; son-in-law, Jake; and two granddaughters, Rilee and Teegan.

Russell was preceded in death by his mother and father, Katharyn and Leo Stanke; and brother Charles "Chuck" Ellenburg.

Russell was very special to all who encountered him. His stubborn yet joyful nature was endearing and he will be greatly missed by his loved ones and all whom he was close to.
