Joyce Dyck

Obituary of Joyce Marlene Dyck

Born in Muskegon, Michigan, Joyce was the daughter of Gerald and Margret VanDeKoppel. She graduated from Sherwood Music School in Chicago in 1956, and then attended Wheaton College to continue her love of music. On August 9, 1958, while at Wheaton College, she married Don Dyck, fellow organist. From there she began her life as a military wife, mother of three boys, organist, pianist, choir director, and piano teacher.

Over the years, Joyce worked as an organist and choir director for both adults and children. Initially, she served in churches in Texas and Colorado. While in Germany, in Fulda and Darmstadt, Joyce was the children's choir director and substitute organist when Don was on assignment. In 1977, the family returned to Colorado Springs, Colorado, where Joyce played the organ, first at Evangelical Presbyterian Church, and then at the Air Force Academy Community Chapel. At the community chapel, Joyce also led the children's choirs. Later, she took a position as the assistant organist at First Methodist and then lead organist for Ivy Wild Presbyterian Church. Joyce finished her career as the organist and choir direct at Gateway Presbyterian Church from 1989 to 2010.

During all these years, Joyce taught piano to students of all ages, including all three of her sons. She was an avid singer and took voice coaching from Mrs. Mckenzie.

Since 1978, Joyce enjoyed ranch life at her home located just outside of Woodland Park, Colorado. The colors and wildlife there brought her joy as well as the time spent with her sons and grandchildren at the ranch.

The legacy of her life and service to God can be seen in her three surviving sons, Jerome Dyck of Lone Tree, Colorado, Jon Dyck of Woodland Park, Colorado, and Jeffrey Dyck of Yamhill, Oregon; in the next generations of grandchildren, Spencer, Casey, Tyler, and Marissa; and her great-grandchildren, Karson, and Weston.

In 2014, her husband preceded her in death, ready to welcome her home.
