Obituary of Teresa Ann McDaniel
Teresa McDaniel, also known as Terry, aged 96, passed away near the end of October 2021. Teresa was born in a small town near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania in 1925. After graduating from high school, she moved to New Jersey to attend nursing school and became a registered nurse. She worked as both a private duty nurse and in a number of hospitals throughout her career. In her later years, she helped her local AARP group by taking blood pressure readings at their monthly meetings. She met her husband to be, James McDaniel, on a visit to Texas to see her brother, Bob. They struck up a friendship that led to a lifelong marriage. James was in the Air Force, which meant several moves along the way, including Texas, New Mexico, South Dakota, California, Canada, Illinois, and eventually Colorado. After being married for ten years, they had their daughter, Jamie, who joined them on their adventures throughout the states and Canada.Once James retired from the Air Force, they chose to stay in Colorado and build their dream home in Black Forest. Teresa loved the forest and enjoyed bird watching, exploring the woods, and planting lots of flowers, bushes, and trees that surrounded the house with beautiful color. Her love of plants and flowers was not limited to the outdoors, and she went on to grow many unusual flowering houseplants which won several ribbons at the State Fair. She joined the Horticultural Arts Society and was an active member for many years. She also loved to go mushroom hunting throughout the forest and became a member of the local mycological society.Decorating her home for every holiday was another one of her great joys and her daughter carries on that tradition in her own home, with a special focus on autumn and Christmas. Her adorable snowman collection will continue to live on with her family forever.Due to a fall, Teresa was no longer able to stay in her home of fifty years and moved into assisted living in 2019. Although she missed her beloved home, she was able to be closer to her family and enjoyed spending more time with them in the last few years of her life.Teresa was preceded in death by her husband, James; parents, William and Helen; her brother, Bob; and her aunt, Mary, who was a second mother to her. She is survived by her daughter, Jamie; son-in-law, John; and grandcat, Clarence.Teresa and her family would like to say a special thank you to her Brookdale caregivers, Bloom Healthcare Professionals, special friends among the residents at Brookdale, and Brookdale Hospice for supporting all of us in the last months and days of her life.
