Obituary of Luther L. Hempeck
Luther L. HempeckJuly 24, 1930 – April 28, 2010Luther was born in Hancock, Minnesota on July 24, 1930. In his teens he relocated to Southern California with his brother and widowed mother. On March 30, 1951 he joined the U.S. Army serving in the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge from the Army, Luther was employed at McNerney's Mortuary in San Pedro, California, hence his life-long nickname, MORT.Luther married Anita Louise Spence on April 29, 1955 and together they raised four daughters. He began his lifetime career as a California Highway Patrolman on October 6, 1958. Throughout his CHP career he earned many awards as well as being honored with Officer of the Year several times. He retired August 8, 1990 after over thirty years of exemplary service. Once retired from the CHP he enjoyed many years as a locksmith.Because Luther loved the mountains, cooler weather and four seasons he moved to Colorado Springs, Colorado in 2006 where some of his family resided. He loved family gatherings, Sunday afternoon drives and picnics. Luther also had a strong affection for animals of any kind.Luther always had a humorous outlook on life and constantly made everyone laugh. He attended Rocky Mt. Calvary Chapel in Colorado Springs, CO.Luther is survived by his four daughters, Evelyn Hempeck, Jane Lord, Susan Hempeck, and Patricia Allen, as well as six grandchildren, and several great-grandchildren.
