Obituary of Floyd Leroy Griesinger
Floyd "Buster" GriesingerFeb 9, 1922 to June 24, 2010Born on a farm near Elgin Iowa, son of Fred and Ida Griesinger. The family moved to Independence in 1939. Floyd worked for the REA and James Davis electric as an electrician. He joined the Army Air Corp in March of 42. Selected for aviation training, he completed Pre flight in Santa Anna, CA and trained in A-20s, B25s, B17s and B24s. As pilot of the B-24 Henry's Pride attached to the 446th Bomb Group and stationed at Bungay near Flixton, England, he was awarded the DFC, two oak clusters, and Air medal with four oak clusters; while flying thirty missions against the Third Reich. After WWII he married Jeanette Sink of Carlsbad New Mexico and worked as an accountant for a potash mine near Carlsbad. He returned to the Air Force in 1951. After several assignments in the US (Lowry, K.I. Sawyer, Lincoln, San Bernardino) and Far East (Okinawa and S. Korea), retired as a Lt. Col. in 1970. An avid fisherman, he spent many years living in an Air Stream trailer and following the fishing seasons from Alaska to Mexico and back again; finally settling in Sequim Washington. In 2009 he relocated to Colorado Springs, CO to be closer to family.
