Obituary of Harry Geist
Harry GeistJune 21, 1922 – December 27, 2010Harry was born at home in Kendrick, Colorado on June 21, 1922 to Friedrich and Charlotte (Eichmann) Geist. He left school at the age of 13 and took over farming responsibilities due to his father's stroke which left him paralyzed. Harry took care of the four horse field team, which he says was a better time because when horses got tired you had to stop for the day. This gave more time to socialize with friends.Harry's parents and his mother's parents homesteaded south of Rush, Colorado and received 560 acres. His grandfather donated two acres to build the St. Lukas Church and cemetery.Harry married Pearlie Mae Rasner on February 28, 1944 (57 years of marriage). They leased a place near Edison School where they shared a good life and made a good living out of farming and ranching. They belonged to the St. Paul Lutheran Church of Calhan and eventually became members of the Kendrick Bible Church in the community. They were both involved in community and 4-H and volunteered often when needed. Harry raised cattle until 2001 when he sold his last herd at the age of 79. He then leased his land and enjoyed watching over the cattle as if they were his own.His son, Paul and his wife moved in with Harry in 2001. Harry lived the last two years of his life at Emeritus at Broadmoor with a very loving and caring extended family. He enjoyed his last days playing ball and the maracas. He was fun loving with all of his extended family at Emeritus and they all have something special to remember him by. He will forever be known to them as the M&M lovin', 'ole blue eyes as he was affectionately called. We thank every one of them for their devotion to Harry and making his last two years happy ones. He loved them all in his own special way.Harry is survived by his children, Bonnie Ramey (Dan), Freddie Geist (Peggy), Paul Geist (Christe) and Viola Mauldin (Brian); four grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren, two sisters, Lydia South and Amelia Bender; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearlie Mae; son, Robert; brother, Jake; and sisters, Mary, Katie, Pauline and Clara.A visitation will be held from 1:00 PM until 4:00 PM Monday, January 3, 2011 at The Springs Funeral Services.
