Obituary of John P. Fitzpatrick

John P. Fitzpatrick, 75, passed away peacefully at Pikes Peak Hospice on Monday, February 28, 2011 after a lengthy battle with cancer. He was born on November 5, 1935 in York, Pennsylvania, the son of the late R. Paul and Beatrice Lancaster Fitzpatrick. He was the loving husband of 41 years to Rita Taylor Fitzpatrick, caring father of Sean, Daniel, Matt, and Molly Fitzpatrick, grandfather of Jameson and Daniel Fitzpatrick. He was the brother of Yvonne Dusterhoff and Louis, Mark, and Douglas Fitzpatrick. He graduated from Millersville College with a BA degree in education and taught middle school in Baltimore, MD, prior to accepting a position with the federal government. In that capacity he rose to the position of Chief of Classification Appeals for the Denver and Dallas, TX regional offices. He was widely recognized for his expertise in position classification and in 1990 received the Director's Award for Superior Accomplishment by the US Office of Personnel Management. Retired in 1992, he pursued a second career as a personnel consultant to various federal agencies. He enjoyed serving as an instructor for the US Department of Agriculture.John enjoyed many hobbies. He delighted his children and their friends with magic shows, explored the guitar and banjo, taught himself Spanish, and took up woodworking in retirement. John was active in Scouting with his sons, was a member of the Knights of Columbus, and served as leader of the Stephen Ministers program at St. Mary's Cathedral for several years. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Old Colorado City.
