I want to send my prayers for the family. I only met Michael when we were young children. I wish I could have kept in touch. Life just seems to go so fast. My mother is 1st cousin to Alice (Louise M. Thode). I have always enjoyed my mother sending me pictures that Alice has sent of your family. Again, I send my deepest condolances to you family. Mary B. Johnson(Thode) P.O. In the military we come in contact with a lot of people. Some we care for and some we feel we'd be better of not knowing. Col Van Doren is and always the type you could never forget. He was a leader and someone you would want to be led by. I thank you sir for all the guidance and motivation you instilled in us. RIP.

Col Van Doren was hands down one of the best men and commanders I've encountered in my military career. I will always remember the genuine concern he expressed for me during the loss of one of my best friends and many of months after the fact--he didn't just "move on" as if it never happened. My condolences go out to his family and closest friends during this time of loss. I salute you, Col Van D!

Lt Col Van Doren and I crossed paths numerous times in our Air Force careers. He re-enlisted me on two occasions. I will always remember him as the very, personable, upbeat, intelligent, caring, positive, and over-all awesome that he was. On the short list of people I have encountered in my life that I would rate as Top-Notch, I would count him among them. God-Speed my friend! Best wishes and condolences to his wife, Cassandra, Daughter, Jennifer, Son, Michael, and the rest of his family.

Lt. Col Van Doren was my first commander when I got to Moody. He made sure that he knew everyone by first name, their spouses and their children. He was just amazing.I remember when we would run around mission lake, I would be one of the last people to come in on the run and he would always bring the guide-on and run with me until the finish line. Encouraging all the way. He will greatly missed. My condolences goes to the Van Doren family.
