Obituary of Alfred Benton Day

Al was born to Francis and Rachel Day in Lynch, Kentucky. He was called Benton by his family. He is survived by siblings, Elmo (Deola), Eugene (Irene), Zane (Nene), Louise Sturgill, Georgette (Harry) Sims and Frank (Pat) Day.He is preceded in death by his parents and brother, James L. Day and son, James G. Day.He is also survived by his wife of 45 years, Nita Day; children, Jennifer Doubleday, Jeffrey (Dolly) Day and Jerald (Robin) Day; grandchildren, Jessica (Chris) Cullen, Jonathan (Amy) Doubleday, Cassie Smith, and Mark Reeves; and one great grandson, Logan Cullen. He was loved by many others including, Keith Doubleday and Bonnie Ferguson; two special family friends, Shelley and Makayla; and his extended family by marriage, Judith (Bill) Thomas, Jan Joseph, Richard McConnell and Ted McConnell and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be most missed by his two special furry friends, Patch cat and Paws cat. They brought many hours of happiness and laughter the past year and were with him to the end.Al retired after 22 years of service to his country in the U.S. Air Force. Upon retirement he worked several years in GSA Security. He worked at Crissy-Fowler Lumber for 17 years and ran the Fix-it Corner much of that time, a most enjoyable job as he loved repairing and restoring just about everything.Al was a member of First United Methodist Church (FUMC), where he was a quiet volunteer and participated in several small group studies. Al operated a TV camera for the FUMC live 11 AM TV broadcast for about 10 years.He loved his photography and had several nature photos published in engagement calendars distributed by a private company. His family has many wonderful memories of special and ordinary times recorded by his photographic talent.Al was a man of great faith and honesty and at his request, he has been cremated and private family celebrations of his life will be held at a later time in both Kentucky and Colorado. Al's request for those who wish to honor his life was for them to please donate to their favorite charity or First Steps Spirituality Center, located at 313 North Tejon Street, Colorado Springs, CO 80903. First Steps Spirituality Center is a very special non-profit organization founded by Reverend Doctor Leanne Hadley, First Steps is dedicated to providing spiritual support to all hurting children and teens at no cost. Rev. Dr. Hadley is the Associate Pastor to Children and Families at FUMC.
