Obituary of Gail Carter Davis

Gail C. Davis, 74, passed away on April 7, 2011 in Colorado Springs, Colorado.Gail was born on October 30, 1936 in Buffalo, New York to Nelson and Margurite Carter. She spent her formative years in both Clarence Center and Harris Hill, New York. While attending Clarence Central High School, Clarence, New York, she was inducted as a founding member of the school's National Honor Society chapter. After graduating, she completed her Bachelor's degree, with honors, from Buffalo State Teacher's College, and then devoted the next 30 years as an elementary school teacher at Clarence Center Elementary School. This was the same school she had attended, and eventually both her own children would attend.Gail was passionate about music, spending over 50 years as a church organist. Most recently she was the music director and church organist for Saint Matthias Episcopal Church in Monument, Colorado. During much of those 50 years she was an active member of the American Guild of Organists.Another of Gail's interests was travel. During their early married years, the family spent summers camping throughout New England and eastern Canada. As empty nesters, Gail and her husband took many trips to Europe, eventually developing a keen interest in England. During one of their early European visits, they discovered walking and canal boat tours, which ultimately led to their organizing and leading group travel to England. Their England adventures also afforded her the opportunity to play pipe organs at a number of historic cathedrals. Gail and her husband also founded the Niagara Frontier American Volkssport Association Club and organized walking tours of the Buffalo and Niagara Falls, New York area. After moving to Colorado Springs in 2001, they continued to enjoy walking and travel.Survivors include her husband of over 56 years, Roy Davis of Colorado Springs, two children, Ken Davis of Colorado Springs, and Ann Lowe of Spencerport, New York, and six grandchildren, Matt, Aubrey, Nick, Nate, Margy, and Katie. She is also survived by one brother, John Carter of Tucson, Arizona, and two sisters, Bren Pricket and Sue Nasby of the Indianapolis, Indiana area.The family would like to thank the Mountain Community Mennonite Church and Saint Matthias Episcopal Church families for their prayers and support, the caregivers and staff at A Robin's Nest for their excellent care and love, and the staff at Odyssey Healthcare Hospice for their gentleness, compassion and skillful care. A memorial service will be held at Saint Matthias Episcopal Church, Monument, Colorado on Saturday, April 16, 2011 at 10:30 am.
