Obituary of Everett E. Simkins

Everett E. Simkins graduated to heaven April 26, 2011. We are thankful that now he is in the arms of Jesus free from all pain.His home going was very peaceful being surrounded by family during the last few days having times of prayer and singing songs about heaven. Everett Eugene Simkins was born on July 5, 1926, in Niwot, Colorado. He was the first child born to Eugene and Myrtle Simkins. His parents and brother, Elmer preceded him in death. He is survived by his brother, Ernest and sister, Dorleen Johnson. He was a beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend to many.Everett graduated from Boulder High School in 1944. Everett met his beloved sweetheart Shirley Bohn through his sister, Dorleen. The wedding took place June 4, 1950, at the Methodist Church in Lyons, Colorado.He is survived by five children and their spouses: Wanda Ward; Evelyn & Bill Ankrom; Elmer & Jamie Simkins; Rhonda & Paul Kennard; Melody & Paul Ballard. Eighteen grandchildren: Rebecca & Brian Jones; Kimberly & Jim Hathaway; Roy & Jenny Ward; Jonathan & Christy Diss; Justin & Brittany Diss; Joshua Diss; Ethan & Jessica Simkins; Kylie Simkins; Andrew & Carrie Ann Kennard; Adam & Laura Kennard; Ashley & Darren Epperson; Aaron Kennard; Alyssa Kennard; Casey Ballard; Charity Ballard; Crystal Ballard; Caleb Ballard; Casandra Ballard. Thirteen great grandchildren: Daniel Jones; Aubrianna Jones; Glorianna Jones; Gracianna Jones; Kaylinn Hathaway; James Hathaway; Charise Hathaway; Jordynn Hathaway; Evie Diss; Clayton Kennard, Rorie Diss, Eli Simkins, & Baby Kennard.Everett accepted the Lord as his personal Saviour in his early thirties. Everett and Shirley became active and faithful in the Baptist Church where they taught their children about their Saviour. Because of their godly example and teaching, all of their children have accepted Christ as their Saviour.He served his country in the Army Air Corp from January 1944 to October 1946 at the end of World War II. During his time of service he was decorated with several honors: American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Victory Medal, Meritorious Unit Award, and Good Conduct Medal. He enlisted as a Private and departed as a Sergeant of the 750th AAF BU 120th squadron. One of his children's favorite memories is when he would set them on his knee and teach them how to read and pray by repeating the scripture after him. Each night he led his family in Bible reading and prayer. Everett loved serving the Lord and others by holding the office of deacon, bus ministry, helped with Royal Ambassadors, Awanas and the King's Kids ministry. Dad was always there to help anyone who was in need. His favorite Bible verse was Proverbs 3:5-6. Dad was a dedicated husband. He was Shirley's sweetheart, best friend, and constant companion. Everett was a godly father and a friend to all his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He always made anyone he was around feel like they were the most important person. Dad left a legacy of a godly example of how to love unconditionally and putting God first in one's life.Visitation will be held from 4PM-6PM Friday, April 29, 2011 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E.
