Obituary of Mary Catherine Rooney
Mary Catherine Rooney was born February 13, 1945 in Chicago, Illinois and educated at St. Vincent's Academy in Santa Barbara, California. She touched many lives deeply, joyfully and irrevocably with her courage, humor and indomitable joie de vie.She challenged herself often, diving wholeheartedly into new adventures, and was able to accept changes in health and circumstances gracefully. She was very social and outgoing, always with a ready smile and a funny quip. She played softball on a team in Napa, California and basketball in Special Olympics, sang in her church choir and worked in sheltered workshops in California and Massachusetts and in a special program at Pizza Hut in California. She spent 6 weeks every summer with Larry and Margaret in Colorado and eventually came to live with them for nearly ten years. It was her fondest wish to drive and she was able to do so on the ranch's dirt roads and trails and loved taking lunches to Larry on the tractor. She loved spending time with Briahn and Ruth in California doing things like picking apples in their orchard and helping make apple pie. She also loved going with her siblings and their significant others to Hawaii where she fit right in with the Aloha spirit! She leaves behind many grieving family members and friends who are grateful to have known and loved her: Margaret and Larry, Peter and Christine, Briahn and Ruth, Peter and Carlos, Enrique, Joyce, Dennis and Liz, Christine, Mary, Liz, Terri, Lee, Zack, Dion, Kristin, Monica and all the great staff at Springs Village who cared for her so well and so deeply. She was a beloved sister, aunt and friend. She will leave a hole in our world and fill heaven with her joy.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
