Obituary of Vinta E. Bonicelli

Vinta, a lifelong resident of Colorado Springs passed away on November 3, 2011 at the age of 91. Vinta was born in Colorado Springs to the late Fred and Vinta McBrinn. She was preceded in death by her husband Sylvio and by her sister, Patricia Burns.Vinta was actively involved with assisting her husband Syl in establishing numerous businesses which they operated in Colorado Springs. Most notable was the popular tavern Sil's Barn where they served the downtown community for more than 25 years. Vinta will be lovingly remembered by her family and friends for her many talents, for her interests, and for a multitude of treasured stories of her life experiences which she shared with us. From the few years she spent working in Hollywood watching the big 1940 movies stars come to her restaurant, to the hubbub of "Busy Corner" downtown Colorado Springs, to the who's who on Knob Hill, and to the early years of the Broadmoor Hotel, she was always in-the-know of what was happening. Because of her heritage, Vinta embraced everything Irish, but she became Italian by association. She was a superb cook and her corned beef and cabbage along with her Italian meatballs and famous chili go unchallenged as the best. Her interests ranged from Liberace to Pavarotti; from auto racing to football; from late night talk shows to reality TV. Vinta's wonderful sense of humor and impish giggle will forever be present in the memories of those who knew her. Vinta is survived by her sons Patrick (Dianne), John (Mary), and Silvio (Joanne). Also surviving are her grandchildren: Joseph, Jennifer, Nick, Tim, Julie, Andrea, Natalie; and great-grandchildren: Michael, Ryker, Ayva, and several nieces and nephews. Visitation will be from 4:00PM to 6:00PM on Friday, November 11, 2011 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 E. Platte Avenue. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00AM, Saturday, November 12, 2011 at The Springs Funeral Services with burial to follow Evergreen Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Vinta's honor to Pikes Peak Hospice and Palliative Care.
