Elizabeth (Betty) Jeanne Richey Hendron was welcomed home into the arms of her Lord on February 18, 2012.Betty was born on November 19, 1925 in Chicago Heights, Illinois, the last child of seven, born to Herschel and Bessie Richey. She met her husband, Chet, while he was in the Army, and they married on July 22, 1944. They settled in Chicago Heights when Chet was discharged and WWII was over, and began their life together. Betty and Chet were active members of the First Christian Church there, both serving in many capacities, including singing in the church choir. Betty was trained as a secretary and held several positions, including working for Phi Delta Kappa, Woolworths, Montgomery Wards, Rau's Department Store, and Allied Van Lines. The last 22 years of her working career she spent as secretary to the Dean of Students for Bloom Township High School in Chicago Heights. After she and Chet retired, they bought a motor home and began touring the country. They found a community in N Fort Myers, Florida where they enjoyed visiting, and ended up buying one of the park models there. They also sold their Illinois home and bought a condo in Colorado Springs to live nearer their family. For several years, they spent their time living in both Colorado Springs and Ft. Myers. While in Florida, Betty organized and directed the community's annual talent and variety show, an activity she greatly enjoyed and took pride in. Betty was an avid reader and loved reading her entire life. She and Chet enjoyed playing cards and many varied social activities with their friends, family and neighbors.. She is survived by her husband of 67 years, Chet; her daughter Suzanne (Lee) Vaughn of Colorado Springs; a son Barry (Susan) of Florissant, and his two sons, Brad of Chandler, AZ, and Marc and his daughter Morgan of Littleton, CO; daughter Merry (Charles) Vaughn of Albuquerque, and several nieces and nephews.Betty's family would like to thank Pikes Peak Hospice , and all the staff at The Medalion Retirement Community where she and Chet have lived since February, 2008. Betty and Chet have enjoyed living there and so much appreciate the care they have received from, and the friendships they formed, with the loving and compassionate CNAs, nurses, therapists, and support staff.
