Obituary of Charles Edmund Reid

Charles Edmund Reid was born July 30, 1922 at Syracuse, Kansas the eldest son of Charles Fisher Reid and Zelma Jane (Winchell) Reid. He was preceded in death by his parents, several brothers and his sister. A brother, Harold Lee of Florida survives.He attended lower grades in school at Syracuse and Kendall Kansas. He graduated from Kendall Rural High School in 1940. After living in both Syracuse and on a farm south of Kendall, he volunteered for the Navy Reserve and went to school at Wichita Kansas. He was sworn into the service at Kansas City, Kansas and was sent to boot camp at the Great Lakes training center. After his schooling in aircraft mechanics he served in the Pacific at Kaneohe Air Station on the Island of Oahu and flew several times as an airman on patrol in the Pacific. He was discharged at Corpus Christi, Texas at the rate of AMM 2C.After the service he entered Garden City Jr. College and then went on to Wichita University. He later graduated from Colorado University at Colorado Springs with a BS in business with a Finance degree. He worked on the farm and at a grain elevator after the service. He went to work for Colorado Interstate Gas Co. in 1954, and served there until retirement in 1985. He worked there as a draftsman and later as a supervisor. He passed the state exam for Surveyor and became a registered Colorado State Surveyor.He met and married Cleo Virginia (Gucene) in 1950 and they had 51 wonderful years together. There were two children born Linda K. (McCloskey), and Charles G.
