As early as the age of five, I found one of the most exciting announcements made to us Gattis children to be, "George and Dottie are coming!" They were dear friends of our parents, and their arrival for a visit was always a signal of good times to come. Dottie loved to cook, loved to joke, loved a gathering of any size, was an excellent listener, and she loved to laugh. She had the best laugh ever. When I was five and they came to visit us in Mississippi, we all went out for a walk. As we neared home on the return, there was a slope to the yard, and at the base Dottie turned and said, "Race you to the top!" I took off and so did she, and she beat me by a long distance. I like to think my state of amazement was the reason she was able to win so easily. I had never, before Dottie, seen an adult run! I miss knowing Dottie is in this world. She was a wonderful friend to so many all her life, and I know she is missed by every single one of them.

I first met Dottie and George in 1948 when we were stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi. Dottie and I got along immediately and I have always felt she was the sister that I never had.. She and George had no children and as our children came along Dottie was always there to help me with them. One of the chidlren once asked if George and Dottie was their Aunt and Uncle! After Biloxi we were later stationed together in Virginia and again our friendship flourished. George was overseas for a while then and even though Dottie was working we saw a lot of her. Since I have moved to Kansas, her niece Connie , drove she and George down for a few days and we celebrated Dottie's birthday. We had such a wonderful time. Even though I didn't get to see Dotiie all that often in the past few years we talked frequently and I will miss hearing her voice, A wonderful person and such a good friend. She will be missed by many and certainly by our whole family.
