Obituary of Lavone P. Shoffner
(Pearl) Lavone Perkins Shoffner died peacefully, at the age of 99, on September 13, 2012 in Colorado Springs.Lavone was born on July 21, 1913 at the farm of her parents, Robert and Pearl Perkins in Jacksonville, Missouri. She was the oldest of five children.Lavone lived at the family farm while attending and graduating from high school. At the age of twenty, she married Porter Shoffner (1903-1976), band and jazz pianist, and piano technician. They moved to Colorado Springs where they settled and had three children.As a gifted pianist, Lavone taught younger students throughout her high school years and was the pianist for the Jacksonville Christian Church. After she wed, she continued entertaining her family and friends with her light classical music and 1930's / 40's pops.Lavone worked at the First National Bank from the early 1960's until she retired at the age of 70.After retirement, she spent her days tending to her pink petunias, beautiful green yard, and her beloved dog, Pepper at the home where she lived for over seventy years. She had a second and very important career taking loving care of many babies and young children.Lavone is survived by her daughter, Beverly Butterweck of Windsor, California; son Don (Kathy) Shoffner of Colorado Springs; sister Darlene Bamman of Jacksonville, Missouri; eight grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; and several step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.She was preceded in death by her son Robert.A Memorial Service to celebrate her life will be held 2:30PM Wednesday, September 26, 2012, at Sunnyside Christian Church, 2025 N.
