Obituary of Vassie Schofield Thomas
Vassie Thomas, "Nanny", was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother that will be missed by everyone that had the privilege of knowing her. She leaves behind a legacy of tenderness and faith in Christ. Her devotion was such that she would recite the 23rd Psalm every night until she was unable to speak the words. She spent her life serving God and her family. After entering the workforce as a Civil Servant with the USAF she met and married the love of her life, Charles George Thomas. Vassie and George protected, supported and loved each other for 58 wonderful years while raising two children, Steve and Debbie. They are the proud grandparents of 7 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. Everyone in the family loved Nanny's southern cooking and there were often lively discussions as the grandchildren fought for the last few bites of her famous apple salad, oven fried chicken and macaroni 'n cheese. Nanny's kitchen was always open and everyone was welcome to come and eat there. Nighttime prayers following each night's reading of "Are You My Mother" are memories that her grandchildren will always cherish and carry with them.Vassie is survived by her husband George; son Steve (Jeannie); daughter, Debbie; brothers , Lewie and Allen; sisters, Lucille, Mary, Barbara; grandchildren Noel (John), Tom (Crystal), Joel, Tiffany, Ryan, Ethan, Maximilian; and great-grandchildren Isla, Aura, Lyric, and Natalie.Donations can be made in Vassie's memory to: The Memory Clinic 3661 South Babcock Street Melbourne, FL 32901Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
