Obituary of Robert W. Fairburn
They always called him The Renaissance Man…passed away in his home February 22, 2013 while surrounded by his family and friends. Robert joined the U.S. Army Air Corps in 1941. Trained at Luke Air Force Base to become a fighter pilot, but was sent to MacDill Air Force Base, Tampa Bay, FL to fly a new hot bomber - the Martin B-26 Marauder. Attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, Troy, New York graduating with top honors in Architectural Engineering and Physics. He was elected a full member of Sigma XI, a scientific honorary society, and later attended Cranbrook Academy of Arts receiving Masters in City Planning. In 1951 Bob became a partner in the architectural firm of Flatow, Moore, Bryan and Fairburn in Albuquerque, NM. In 1962 he moved to Phoenix and started Fairburn Organization.He is survived by his wife Barbara of 49 years and poodle Dot Com, sons Kurt and Paco, 9 grandchildren Mary, Jessica, Michael, Joshua, Alexia, Lara, Mack, Sadie and Drew and 12 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son Marc who passed June 2012, sisters Isabel and Florence and brother, Harry.
