Obituary of Willard "Bill" Bryce Helms

Bill was born in Cottage Grove, Oregon to Autia & Goldie Helms. He had a 30 year military career which he began in the Army Air Corp and retired as an Air Force Colonel.He was a member of the Hump Pilots Association; 3rd Degree Member of the Knights of Columbus; member of the Wally Byam Air Stream Club; and an active member in the Catholic Church - served in various Liturgical ministries. Bill received his Masters in Electrical Engineering, Retired Math Teacher, avid walker/runner, Literacy volunteer, and a life-long poem writer, but the greatest accomplishments were being a wonderful son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. A truly exceptional man!Bill was married for 54 years to Jessie M. Skaleski (deceased 2005) and is survived by daughters Mary Martha Gorres, (Roger) of Mesa, Arizona; Theresa Anne Knapp (Bob) of Colorado Springs; Patti Farley-Barker (Randy) of Monument, Colorado; and Cathy Louise East (Barry) of Hillsboro, Oregon; 4 Grandchildren and 3 Great Grandchildren.A Rosary/Vigil will be held at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 7, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. A Memorial Mass celebrating Bill's life will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, March 8, 2013 at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Colorado Springs. There will be a private interment at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, Colorado.
