Obituary of Lt. Colonel Merrie Jane Billings, USAF

Lt. Colonel Merrie Jane Billings went home to be with the Lord, Sunday, May 5th.Born in Tulsa, OK, September 14, 1943 to parents, Arthur L. Billings and Edra M. Thornton. Predeceased by her brothers, Roger and James Billings, leaving her sister, Barbara Zeeb, CA. and sister-in-law, Carol Billings, WA., nieces, Vicki Billings, Denver, Meg Billings-Yamamoto, WA, Ann Merrie Fitter, Robin Hartman, and nephews, Robert Zeeb, Jr., and John Zeeb, of CA.Merrie entered the US Army, nursing program, 1967, entered active duty, 1969, served in Virgina, Vietnam and California, awarded a BSN, Cum Laude from CSU, Long Beach, in 1969.She transferred to the USAF Nurse Corps, 1974; based in Texas, SO. Dakota, Germany, New York and Nebraska, as an Environmental Health Nurse until her retirement in 1989 in New Hampshire. Merrie participated in the National Program for Big Sisters, volunteered with the Red Cross and Ammonusic Family Heath Center. Moving to Colorado Springs, 2006, she was actively involved with the Society of Air Force Nurses (SAFN). She enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, traveling and her pets.Funeral service, 2:00PM, Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Sunrise United Methodist Church, 2655 Briargate Blvd.Interment with Military Honors at Arlington National Cemetery, VA.Thank you Gentiva Hospice Nursing Team, friends, and retired military nurses for their special care.Donations can be made to SAFN or "Safe for Pets Place".
