Obituary of Patricia Parker Ahrens
Patricia Parker Ahrens, only child of Litta Reeves Parker and Leo Torrie Parker, was born in Cincinnati, OH on June 24, 1923, and passed away on July 13, 2013 in Colorado Springs, CO. Patricia grew up in Cincinnati and graduated from Hughes High School in 1940. She studied at Denison University in Ohio before graduating from University of Cincinnati ("UC") with a Bachelor of Science degree in Education in 1944 with an Art Education Major (and received Bachelor of Education from UC in 1945) with additional course-work in English & Psychology. She was elected to Kappa Delta Pi (Educational Honorary Society; Deans List Honors) and was a member Chi Omega Sorority. Patricia studied Law at UC for two years soon after earning her Bachelors Degree and returned to UC during the years for courses in Interior Design, Real Estate, Public Speaking, Human Relations, and studied Psychology in the UC Graduate School system in the 1980's. Patricia Married Allan Jay Ahrens on November 8, 1952 and they were blessed with two children, Alison Parker Ahrens and Allan Jay Ahrens, Jr.Patricia taught Art in the Ohio Public School System briefly in 1945 before moving on as Advertising Manager (doing Copy & Layout) for Dunlaps Men's Clothing Store, Fashion Consultant for Marsh Photographers, Independent Real Estate Agent affiliated with West Shell Realtors and later Sibcy Cline Realtors, and Independent Real Estate Broker with RE/MAX. While working as a Realtor, Patricia was also VP/Secretary of A.J. Ahrens, Inc., her husband's custom home building company, where she designed marketing programs, literature, PR & sales strategies, and was the Interior Designer working closely with clients. Patricia was a member of numerous clubs and organizations throughout the years including Chi Omega Sorority, President of Pi Alpha Alumnae in 1963, The Cincinnati Womans Club for 46 years, Chairperson of Painting Class, The Woman's Art Club of Cincinnati, Chairperson of Annual Show Jury, The Cincinnati MacDowell Society where she served as Chairperson of Membership, The Travel Club of Cincinnati, past President of two Garden Clubs, and was active in other community affairs including teaching adult night school classes in art. She was also an active member of Armstrong United Methodist Church where she volunteered and answered phones.Patricia was an avid and talented artist who often free-lanced doing portraits and sold some of her paintings at the Cincinnati Zoo. She loved painting, fashion, and traveling. She was an avid reader and read a book a day up until several months before her death. She also enjoyed psychology, creative writing, and swimming at the Cincinnati YMCA until a fall compelled her to move to Colorado Springs in 2009.Patricia is survived by her son, Allan "Jay" Ahrens, Jr. She was preceded in death by her husband, Allan Jay Ahrens, and her daughter, Alison Parker Ahrens.A Memorial Gathering will be held in the fall in Cincinnati and she will be inurned with her Husband at the Solarium Memorial Mausoleum at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati.Funeral Home:The Springs Funeral Services3115 East Platte AvenueColorado Springs, , COUS 80909
