Obituary of MSGT Ethel Ann Makony, USAF Ret.

MSGT Ethel A. Makony passed away October 24, 2013 at the Country Club Assisted Living. Ethel was born December 25, 1915 in Chicago, Illinois to Andrew and Mary Makony.She graduated from Carter H. Harrison Technical High School in Chicago. In March of 1943, Ethel joined the WAAC, Women's Army Air Core, and was soon sent to Europe to serve as a member of General Eisenhower's Secretarial pool and eventually in Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe. Ethel served our country for twenty-four years in the U.S. Air Force. She did several tours in Europe and d at the Pentagon here in the United States and finally at NORAD in Colorado Springs. After retirement from the Air Force, Ethel enrolled in and received a diploma from Blair Business College.Ethel was known as a special caregiver, serving others at Memorial Hospital as a volunteer for twenty-one years. It was very hard for her to accept care from others in the last few months of her life. She was loved and will be so missed by the many friends she had in her lifetime. Ethel's father, Andrew, and mother, Mary, preceded her in death.
