I had the priviledge of serving under Col. Monk at Tyndall AFB, Fla. I got into some hot water when I told MSgt. Haggard where he could go. Col. Monk said I was right in what I did, but I did it the wrong way. I did it in front of 35 of my co-workers. So Col. Monk had to take a stripe for 3 mos with loss of pay. Which made the MSgt happy. But when Col. Monk gave me my stripe back and all my back pay, the MSgt took offense to that and told my reporting official to give me an overall 4 APR. My reporting official wouldn't do it so MSgt Haggard wrote it himself and signed my reporting officials name. Which is highly illegal. That of course kill my chances for promotion. I tried to fight it to no avail. The MSgt was getting ready to retire and they didn't want to do anything to him. Ugh. I f it hadn't been for that I would have made a career of the Air Force. May Col. Monk rest in peace. He was a class act.

I had the priviledge of meeting JG at a Reece family reunion in Hot Springs, Arkansas, September 2012. I was very impressed with his humility and demeanor especially since he was a very accomplished person in his career. He was obviously a great man. My thoughts are especially with Shirley and the family during this great loss. Sincerely, Judy McEntire (first cousin of Shirley)

Getting to know J.G. has been a wonderful experience for me. I enjoyed his warm personality, his enthusiasm, and his smile. He welcomed me as though we had known each other for years. I'm sure that losing him has left a hole in your hearts. Rest in the assurance that he is with Jesus and loved ones who have gone to Heaven before him. I'll continue to keep all of you in my prayers during the coming days and weeks. Love, Janie Russell
