Obituary of Jack Snipes Stewart
Jack S. Stewart, 83, passed away on December 6, 2013 in Colorado Springs, Colorado surrounded by his loving family. Jack was born on September 14, 1930, to Ranald and Thelma Snipes Stewart, in Wilmington, North Carolina, who preceded him in death. He served 25 years in the United States Air Force, enlisting in 1950. Following basic training and technical school, he served tours of duty in New Mexico, Morocco, Louisiana, Florida, Arkansas, Alaska, North Dakota, and Germany. It was while assigned in Roswell, New Mexico he met and married his wife of over 60 years, Corinne Jones Stewart. Following his retirement from the Air Force in 1975, he owned a hardware store in New Port Richey, Florida. In 1978, he and his family moved to Colorado Springs, where he and his wife operated a computer embroidery business for many years at Fort Carson, Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center, Lowry AFB, and in the Chapel Hills Mall. Above all, Jack was a devoted family man who loved to spend time with his large family, telling stories, celebrating family events, and taking trips together. He had a diverse range of interests: he was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and camping, passions he shared with his sons. He was a creative and accomplished woodworker, jewelry designer and maker, and snake authority. He was a loving, generous and humorous man who will be greatly missed by his family and friends. His deep faith in the Lord guided his life, inspired his family and now gives them comfort. He is survived by his wife, Corinne Stewart of Colorado Springs CO; son, Jack Stewart Jr. (Pam) of Culpeper VA; daughter, Debbie Keller (Lon) of Falcon CO; daughter, Denise Phillips (Jerry) of Colorado Springs CO; son, Kevin Stewart of Woodland Park CO; brother, Ranald Stewart Jr. (Katherine) of Tampa FL; sister, Daveanna Stewart of Tampa FL; six grandchildren: Andrew Keller (Gwen) of Broomfield Co; Thomas Keller of Colorado Springs CO; Kristina Dickey (Dan) of Colorado Springs CO; Douglas Keller (Morena) of Colorado Springs CO; Jennifer Holloway (Caleb) of Colorado Springs CO; Amy Phillips of Colorado Springs CO; and 10 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother Bill Stewart (June) of Fort Myers, FL. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
