Obituary of Willie "Gene" DeWitt Nickerson, Jr.
Gene Nickerson was born on July 6, 1947 in Chicago, Illinois and raised in The Gardens to Eloise Nickerson-Strong and Willie D. Nickerson (both deceased), who borne three (3) children, namely Rose (a/k/a Dolly – deceased), Helen Nickerson, and Gene (youngest).Gene attended Hyde Park Academy High School in Chicago, Illinois. Gene was a very loving and kind person, who was self-taught and very much a business-minded innovator (also known as the "The Incense Man"). He possessed an array of artistic skills, including his love and passion for Cooking, in which he greatly excelled. Gene's skill and creativity in the culinary field granted him key employment opportunities at well-known restaurant establishments where he later retired doing what he enjoyed most. He touched the lives of many people (young and old) and those who knew him, loved and respected him dearly. He Will Be Truly Missed !!In 1966, during his relationship with Theresa Taylor, they produced his first-born child – Keith Taylor, and his second-born child in 1973 – Kelly Taylor. Gene met his present wife, Marion E. Davis-Nickerson, in 1977. They happily married on March 15, 1979 upon which Gene took in her three sons (George Pollard, Dionne Pollard and Jacoby Pollard) as his own and one united. In 1989, Gene (and Marion with their children) decided to move from Chicago to Colorado Springs, Colorado in order to escape the fierce cold weather, and eventually made "The Springs" their permanent home. In 2000, while voluntarily rendering foster-care services, Gene and Marion expanded their family by adopting four more children – Marie Nickerson; Andrea Nickerson; Justin Nickerson; and Bianca Bean. Throughout their marriage, they were blessed with numerous Grandchildren and several great-Grandchildren, as well as beloved Pets, namely: Little Bit and Oreo.Gene is survived by: his sister, Helen Nickerson (Bruce, deceased); his spouse (Marion E. Davis-Nickerson); his children (Keith, Kelly, George, Dionne, Jacoby, Marie, Andrea, Justin and Bianca); four (4) Daughters-in law; numerous Grandchildren and great-Grandchildren, along with a host of other Nieces and Nephews, including his cherished pets – Little Bit and Oreo."He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. The former things have passed away." Revelation 21:4Visitation will be 5PM to 7PM Friday, December 20, 2013 at The Springs Funeral Services, 3115 East Platte Avenue, Colorado Springs, Colorado 80909.
