Obituary of Robert Arthur Roades

Robert Arthur Roades, longtime resident of Colorado Springs, passed away on April 15, 2014 at Penrose Hospital of Acute Respiratory Syndrome. Bob was 88 years old. Bob was born on January 21, 1926 in Evansville, Indiana to Dusty and Kathryn Roades. Bob's father, Dusty, was a successful musician and he instilled an early love for music in Bob, who became a drummer at twelve and continued to play Jazz for the next seventy-five years; playing with various bands up until his death. Bob attended North Junior High and Colorado Springs High School before joining the Army for service in World War II, where he worked as a Japanese interpreter in the Pacific. After the war, Bob enrolled at Colorado College where he graduated with honors in 1953.He married Wanda Marie Abshire of Colorado Springs and the couple had three children. Bob and his family lived in Santa Cruz and San Jose, California in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Bob earned a Master's Degree in Education from the University of Northern Colorado and taught English at Pikes Peak Community College for many years. He was known locally by many thankful students, fans, and players of great music in the community.
