Obituary of Irl Calvin Holzrichter

Irl Calvin Holzrichter, 85, died on April 18, 2014 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He grew up as a Mennonite on a farm near Burrton, Kansas. Besides contributing to the family farm, he raised prize winning hogs and acquired a love of gardening. His first marriage to Carol McComb produced two sons. Irl's young family settled in Colorado Springs in the early 1960's and, at this time, Irl learned his trade as a carpenter. After his divorce from Carol, Irl moved to Black Forest, Colorado in 1968. A few years later, he started to build the house he was to occupy for the rest of his life. In 1972, finishing the house became a priority when he married Audrie Lakey, who had four daughters. Audrie and Irl raised six children and shared an enduring love for each other until their deaths in 2006 and 2014. Irl's hobbies included raising and milking short horn cows, and gardening, especially day lilies. Irl retired from the Air Force Academy Maintenance Team in 1992 and lived in Black Forest for as long as he was able. Irl is survived by brothers, Harvey, and Elmer Holzrichter; sister, Doris Edwards; children, Mark, and Michael Holzrichter, Sherrie Swan, Kathy Swan-Bogard, Debbie Skinner, and Lila Taylor.
