Obituary of Roland "Bud" Duane Rodvold
Long-time Colorado Springs resident Bud Rodvold passed away at age 92 Thursday May 29, 2014 after a long battle with heart disease. Bud was born July 20, 1921 in Lake Preston, South Dakota, the area where his family had farmed for several years after immigrating to the US from Norway. After graduating from Lake Preston High School, he spent a few years in California before joining the Navy in 1942 to proudly serve in World War II.He spent much of the war at the Norfolk Naval Air Station before shipping out to the Pacific Theater where he served on an aircraft carrier. After the war, Bud eventually made his way to Rapid City, South Dakota, where he met Edith Tschida, who he married in 1954. Bud and Edie were married for over 59 years at the time of Bud's passing.While living in Rapid City, they had two sons, Keith (1958) and David (1960). In 1963, Bud went to work for Whisler Bearing Company, where he would spend the remainder of his working years. In 1973, Bud took his family to Colorado Springs to open a branch of Whisler Bearing, which he managed until his retirement in 1996.Bud loved the outdoors, and enjoyed camping with family and friends well into his 80's. He was also very active with the Sons of Norway fraternal organization and served in a variety of capacities with the Lutheran Churches that he belonged to. He had a great love for his country, and was proud to have been born in the United States of America.Bud was preceded in death by his parents, Peder and Kari; eleven brothers and sisters; and his son Keith. He is survived by his wife, Edith; son, David (Stephany); and two grandsons, John (Emily) and Steven.Memorial Service, 11:00AM, Saturday, June 7, 2014, Bethel Lutheran Church, 4925 Farmingdale Drive. Luncheon reception to follow. Private inurnment, Bethel Lutheran Church Columbarium.
